Smithy Cottage is ideally located to explore the five Angus Glens to the east and the Breadalbane mountains to the north and west, offering outstanding scenery, walking and wildlife right on the doorstep.

 

Conveniently close to the A9, the north of Scotland is easily accessible, making Smithy Cottage a perfect touring base. The east coast towns of St Andrews, Dundee and Arbroath are within easy reach, as is the beautiful sandy beach at St Cyrus, renowned for its wildlife reserve and dramatic coastal views. Pitlochry, just 20 minutes north, is home to the Festival Theatre, a wide choice of cafés and shops, and Edradour Distillery — the smallest traditional distillery in Scotland. A little further north lie Blair Atholl and the famous House of Bruar, known for quality Scottish food, clothing and gifts. Glen Shee and Braemar are easily reached via Blairgowrie, making the area ideal for winter sports, hillwalking and scenic drives. Golf enthusiasts are well catered for, with eight golf courses within a 30-mile radius, including some of Scotland’s most picturesque parkland and heathland courses.

 

Closer to home, the vibrant market town of Blairgowrie lies just 3 miles to the east, offering supermarkets, independent shops, cafés, restaurants and riverside walks along the River Ericht. Historic Dunkeld, 8 miles to the west, is well worth a visit for its cathedral, charming streets, riverside walks along the Tay and excellent dining options. The surrounding area boasts an extensive network of footpaths and quiet country roads, perfect for walking, cycling and exploring the rolling Perthshire countryside directly from Smithy Cottage.

 

Smithy Cottage is an ideal base for a relaxed and peaceful holiday, whether you are seeking gentle days exploring local lochs, forests and wildlife, or more active adventures in the hills. Nature lovers will enjoy visiting Loch of the Lowes, home to nesting ospreys, while red squirrels are regularly seen nearby and, if you’re lucky, you may even spot beavers along local waterways. With dark skies, seasonal colours and a sense of space and calm, Smithy Cottage offers a true taste of rural Perthshire throughout the year.
